Parenting After Domestic Violence

Most of my clients experience an unexpected shift in their parenting relationship after surviving domestic violence. This dynamic can include behaviors, such as…regression or rebellious behavior from the child to an overindulgent, inseccure or controlling parent. The dynamics vary based on the age and development of the child as well as the impact of trauma the parent has experienced themselves.

The child may feel the need to become the parent and the parent may feel controlled by the child. Both the chid and the parent must develop an identity where both feel seen, heard and safe after the abuse. Transforming their relationship requires patience, undestanding and divine intervention. Coaching can be most effective to support the parent discover the endless possibilities during the process.
